Tips and Trick

One in 10 older adults lack confidence when it comes to using modern technology, study finds

Four in 10 ageing adults (42%) admit they find it difficult to get to grips with new technology as they get older – but 86% gain confidence through being taught tips and tricks by younger generations, a study has found.

Some of the things that leave them most baffled include video games and smart watches – with one in 10 over-65s admitting they lack confidence when it comes to using modern technology.

However, a whopping 94% feel they are never too old to learn – and, thankfully for them, 89% of 18-24-year-olds have been on-hand to show them how it’s done.

Some of the top things older adults have learned from their younger counterparts include how to use WhatsApp, how to scan a QR code, and how to set up a Zoom call.

Other valuable things they have been shown how to do include using a tablet, an air fryer, and mobile banking – as well as how to track energy use on a smart meter display.

But the sharing of helpful knowledge is not just one-sided – as 42% of younger adults, aged 18-24, also feel they have learned important pearls of wisdom from their older peers. This includes how to be respectful, using correct grammar – and good manners at the dinner table.

Other things older adults have passed down to the next generations include a good work ethic, how to save money, and how to bleed a radiator. As a result, 84%, of the 2,000 adults polled, believe there is a lot to learn from family members of all ages.

The research was commissioned by Smart Energy GB, which has teamed up with singer Melanie Blatt and her mum, Helene – who recently appeared on the hit TV show, Race Across the World, helping each other to navigate their way across land and sea.

  1. Asking questions are actually good thing if you are not understanding anything entirely,
except this article presents fastidious understanding even.ダッチワイフ
